Nicolas Bellegarde
Electrical Project Engineer
I am an Electrical Project Engineer with 5 years of experience.
I have worked for more than three years in the railway industry where I have managed an innovative traction electrification project requiring both high technical and managerial skills.
I have a proven record in designing, testing and commissioning Power Supply systems.
I am a results-oriented professional who believes in team spirit, trust, integrity and transparency.
2010 - 2011Transport Global Solutions - Engineering Department
Key responsibilities:
- In charge of a traction electrification project on a tram line in Paris that can reduce the energy consumption by 15% per year (750V DC railway substation made up of controlled power converters)
- Managed quality, cost and time
- Managed the suppliers and validated the conformity of the different equipment to the specifications during the Factory Acceptance Tests (switchgears, protection and isolation devices, transformers, rectifiers, inverters, filters, protection relays, controllers, auxiliary equipment)
- Managed a technical team of 5 engineers: technical support and validation of the whole design including the documentation, technical support during the test and commissioning period on site (establishment of the test procedure and training of the team)
- Supervised the RAMS studies and the interfaces with the different stakeholders
Key achievements:
- Successfully conducted the different phases of the project in accordance with the company’s objectives: conceptual and detailed design, procurement, construction, installation, test and commissioning
- Respected the target cost of the project: €2.5M
- Developed a special relationship of trust with the customer
- Obtained the operating authorization from the customer and the French authorities
2009 - 2010Transport Global Solutions - Engineering Department
Key responsibilities:
- Designed and industrialized new railway substations in a product range with value analysis: from 750V DC to 3000V DC and from 600kW to 8MW
- Defined a technical and economical requirement specification including the interfaces with the other rail systems (rolling stock, overhead contact lines, track, signalling, operations control systems)
- Managed the technical interfaces with the suppliers and the customers
- Managed technical railway tenders (France, Australia, Kazakhstan): carried out the preliminary design, wrote the technical documentation and validated the detailed design
Key achievements:
- Performed the design of each equipment for the different configurations (voltage and power):
o Traction equipment: MV switchgear, transformer, rectifier, inverter, AC and DC filters, protection and isolation devices
o Auxiliary equipment: LV switchgear, transformer, uninterruptible power supply, controller, cooling system, heating, ventilation
- Obtained the free for tender from the hierarchy for these new substations in July 2009
- Confirmed the target selling price in compliance with the company’s strategy
- Forecasted turnover: €70M per year from 2020
- Actively promoted the product to the customers
- Submitted 2 patents
2007 - 2008Transport Global Solutions - Engineering Department
Key responsibilities:
- Achieved the commissioning and the validation on site of new electrical railway substations with high energy saving abilities: instrumentation, measurements, control and protection settings (two 750V DC prototypes)
- Established the test procedure and the test report
- Managed a team of 4 people (technicians and engineers)
- In charge of the interface with the electricity provider and the French authorities
Key achievements:
- Performed test and commissioning activities on site in accordance with quality, cost and time objectives: preliminary tests, no-load tests, dynamic tests with vehicles, performance tests, compliance tests to the European standards (EN 50327, EN 50328 and EN 50329)
- Obtained the safety approval from the French authorities for the use of these new substations
- Promoted the product inside the company: technical presentations and trainings
2006 - 2007Energy Conversion Department
Key responsibilities:
- Modeled and optimized energy conversion systems
- Studied and modeled an on-board electrical network for automobile applications (in partnership with the Renault company)
Key achievements:
- Developed a dimensioning tool for the automobile suppliers
- Optimized electrical systems in order to reduce many criteria: energy consumption, cost, volume and weight (use of numerical methods like Genetic Algorithm, Random Search, Differential Evolution and Nelder-Mead)
- Published and presented 2 international scientific papers (conferences in Czech Republic and France)
2005 - 2005Training and Simulation Systems Department within the Aerospace activity
- Studied the electrical effort restitution for flight control simulators
- Simulated on Matlab and validated the developed command on a test rig
